The Knights will have a busy weekend on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2.
First, the SIAC Champion boys golf team will open up postseason play on Friday morning at 7am at Eagle Valley Golf Course. Coming off SIAC Championship last Friday, a 4th place Finish at a very tough Providence Invite on Saturday, and a runner-up finish on Tuesday at the Washington Invite, the Knights look to ride that momentum into a heavily contested Sectional field. Evansville North (SIAC Runners-up and Washington Invite Champions) and Evansville Memorial should be right at the top with the Knights. Adam Bratton has been the medalist at two of his last three events and should content for an individual medalist title once again this week.
Saturday will be a busy day on the diamonds. Both the baseball and softball teams will be in action. First, the baseball team, coming off a Sectional Championship last Saturday at Bosse Field, will return to the same field and hope for the same result. The Knights will play Columbus East in the morning game (10am) while Franklin Central and Jeffersonville will play in the second semifinal. The winners will play in the Championship game at 6pm.
CASTLE vs. COLUMBUS EAST PREVIEW
Expect the Knights (20-8) to throw University of Virginia bound Zach Messinger at the Olympians in the morning game. Messinger, a senior, brings an 7-0 record and a 1.44 ERA into the matchup. Columbus East (20-7) could throw one of three different pitchers. Options include Sophomore Cole Gilley (4-1, 0.82 ERA with 5 starts and 13 appearances), Senior Drew Hasson (5-1, 2.58 ERA with 7 starts and 10 appearances), and Senior Alec Burnett (5-3, 3.62 ERA with 7 starts and 10 appearances). Common opponents for both teams include Jasper, Jeffersonville, and Evansville Central. The Knights are 3-2 vs. those opponents while Columbus East is just 1-3. Runs could be few and far between in this one.

After a rocky 1st inning in the Regional Championship at Bedford, the Lady Knights settled in and showed their true championship potential. The Knights battled back from being down 4-1 after the 1st and capped it off with a big 6th inning scoring 4 runs to take the 6-5 lead. That’s when Senior Sydney Wilson returned to the circle after being lifted in the 1st to shut down the Lady Stars for 6 straight outs to seal the victory for the Knights. The Lady Knights will now travel to Center Grove for the IHSAA Semi-State and will take on host Center Grove in the first game at 11am EST /10am CST.
CASTLE vs. CENTER GROVE PREVIEW
This could be considered a State Championship game as the #3 Lady Knights (29-2) take on #1 Center Grove (29-1). Unlike the baseball game, this one may be a slug fest. These two teams are two of the state leaders in Home Runs with Center Grove at 30 (led by Senior Jordyn Rudd with 10) and the Knights at 35 (led by Juniors Hannah Hood with 12 and Jenna Lis with 9). Castle is second in 4A with 288 runs scored this season with Center Grove in fourth with 277. You won’t want to miss this one! The winner will take on the winner of Decatur Central and Cathedral at pm EST / 6pm CST.
