The Castle Youth Football League is starting a flag football league for the first time ever in anticipation of Flag Football becoming an IHSAA sanctioned sport in 2027. Flag Football has grown to nearly 125 high school teams for the 2026 season (from 88 in 2025) and is on pace to be fully sanctioned by the IHSAA in the Fall of 2027. It was an "emerging sport" in 2025 and will be in the same category in 2026 and have met all requirement to become sanctioned after the two-year emerging sport period. Castle High School, with the help of a grant from the Indianapolis Colts, offered flag football in 2025 and will do so again in 2026. For middle school athletes who are interested, playing with CYFL will introduce the girls to the game of flag football so that they are better prepared to participate at the high school level.
